INTERSECTIONS
CAROLA NOGUEIRA bears my name and my mother’s last name. By this I want to pay tribute to my legacy of Brazilian women of Portuguese and Alsatian ancestry, who transmuted into beauty all their hands wove and embroidered.
In CAROLA NOGUEIRA an aesthetic drive, a fascination for nature and for the things well done, are combined.
BINOMIALS
My passion for textiles lies in their constructive qualities. I enjoy looking for visual and spatial analogies around me, either in nature or in the built environment, in terms of composition and structure.
I search textures, materials, and colors alike that inspire the creation of innovative textile patterns, surfaces, and volumes at their encounter with art, architecture, and fashion. To me, each fabric design is an opportunity to set different things in relation. It is an exercise for building dialogues through the assemblage of diverse voices. From its interlacing, each fabric has a story to tell.
ARCHITECTURE / TEXTILES
In CAROLA NOGUEIRA we are dedicated to the design and production of contemporary textiles. In their varied applications, each collection brings innovative design and handcraft techniques with proposals that challenge the more traditional concept of handmade fabrics.
Teamwork is essential for achieving high quality products and services. From our Barcelona-based atelier, we are committed to craftsmanship, to authenticity and to the selection of quality raw and recycled materials. We are devoted to environmentally sustainable production in the integration of opposite values:
TRADITION / VANGUARD
ARTISANRY / DESIGN
LOCAL / UNIVERSAL
I was born into a family of Venezuelan and Brazilian architects. Until my teenage years, my life elapses between Caracas and São Paulo, two cities that shared the ideals of modern art and architecture. My visual memory nourishes from their abstract forms and languages, as well as by the light, the colors, and the exuberance of the varied South American landscapes. After more than two decades of life in Spain, the Iberian Peninsula and the Mediterranean landscapes leave also their imprint in my work.
I studied design in Oakland, architecture, and museology in Caracas, and completed a PhD in theory and history of architecture in Barcelona. My passion for wefts led me to a textile art training at the Massana Art School. Without seeking it, this allowed me to reconnect with my origins and their handcraft wisdom. In my professional practice today, research and experimentation integrate in multiple ways in the intersection of such diverse threads.
